UFAD & Energy Efficiency

UFAD systems are able to achieve energy savings, especially in areas with high ceilings, due to their tendency to condition only the occupied zone (the bottom six feet of space in a room). This ensures that energy is not wasted conditioning the unoccupied space closer to the ceiling, resulting in decreased air volume requirements which in turn lead to reduced fan power and chiller demands.

To maximize energy efficiency and the associated cost savings, ensure diffuser throw does not exceed 6 feet, and that leakage from the floor plenum is avoided. There is also a great opportunity for increased economizer usage due to the higher supply air temperature used in UFAD systems.
